Abstract

The article analyses educational experiences in public schools in Espírito Santo, involving students from Elementary School II and Youth and Adult Education (EJA). The EJA activities took place as part of Supervised Internship III on the History course at UFES (2019/2), while those in the 6th year of primary school were part of doctoral research (Vago-Soares, 2010). Both experiences addressed narratives and memories related to Cultural Heritage, emphasising its role in the construction of identities. The study emphasises the importance of cultural and symbolic assets as a support for the rooting and recognition of students as producers of culture and history. More than the heritage itself, the results indicate that the educational process and social interactions promote belonging and community integration, reinforcing the role of memory and personal/collective narratives in the formation of subjects.

Author Biographies

Miriã Lúcia Luiz, Federal University of Espírito Santo

She holds a degree in Pedagogy (2004) and History (2009), a master's degree (2010) and a PhD (2015) in Education from the Federal University of Espírito Santo. She is a member of the Núcleo Capixaba de Pesquisa em História da Educação (NUCAPHE) and coordinates the research group Memorias, Narrativas e Histórias de/en las escuelas de Espírito Santo: diálogos en la formación de profesores. She is a lecturer in the Graduate Programme in Education at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, in the line of Education, Human Formation and Public Policies. She has a post-doctorate in History of Education from the Federal University of Minas Gerais and the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto. She works in the areas of History of Education, History Teaching and Teacher Training and Practice.

Maria Angélica Vago Soares, Federal University of Espírito Santo

Graduated in Art Education from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (2004). Master's and PhD in Education in the area of Verbal and Visual Languages (UFES-PPGE). Professor of Higher Education at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), in the Education Centre - Department of Culture, Languages and Education (2019 to date). She is a member of the Research Groups: Images, Technologies and Childhood (PPGE-UFES) and the Centre for Research, Teaching and Extension in Sensory Experience (NUPEEES- UFSB). Member of the Serra Academy of Letters and Arts. Member of the Children's Education Centre (NEDI), UFES. I was a teacher of children and teenagers from 1991 to 2018. Author of the book: Childhood, Art and Culture: experiences in educational (com)texts, 2015 and the children's short story: Quita and Kristal: adventures in a city, 2020. Coordinator of the Pedagogy Course - UFES 2024/2026 and coordinator of PIBID - Visual Arts, 2022/2024 and 2024/2026.
