This article presents a study focused on the conservation of Praça Senador Salgado Filho, located in the centre of Rio de Janeiro and designed by Roberto Burle Marx. The main objective is to propose a Preventive Conservation and Risk Management Plan that addresses contemporary challenges, such as climate change and unplanned urban growth. The methodological approach adopted is based on urban ethnoconservation, which integrates the preservation of the square’s heritage and socio-cultural values, promoting participatory and inclusive management. Through the implementation of green infrastructure, adaptive vegetation management and continuous monitoring technologies, the plan aims to preserve the values attributed to the square, ensuring its resilience in the face of climate impacts and social pressure for use. The study also highlights the importance of community participation in the conservation process, ensuring that the space continues to play its role in contemporary urban life.
