Abstract

This article aims to analyze the impact of the constructions about Ancient Egypt has on the contemporary Egypt. For this purpose, we will focus on the case study of the Eternal Egypt myth, specifically about its development and how this perspective has been influenced on both its creators and the territories which were explained by it. We will go from a more general theoretical analysis until a specification of the Egyptian society in the transition phase from Morsi to Sisi. Of course, we will not argue in favor of a very longue durée, but we will observe how the readings and appropriations of Antiquity can serve as instruments for justifications of the State policies. This approach shows that the study of History, even that dedicated to the most remote past, cannot – and must not – be distant from the present contexts.
