Author Guidelines

STANDARDS FOR PUBLICATION

Faces da História publishes originals of authors who wish to submit their articles, reviews and interviews for appraisal by the Editorial Board and ad hoc reviewers, through blind review, reserving the journal's right to make changes to suit the works to its editorial standards. Contributions must strictly follow the norms for publication of the journal; non-compliance will lead to the work’s devolution.

1. ARTICLES:
   • Articles should have between 15 and 25 pages with A4 format, in Windows compatible files (.doc or .docx format), written in Times New Roman font, size 12, justified, 1.5 cm line spacing, left margins. and superior of 3 cm and right and inferior of 2 cm;
   • Article’s structure:
     • Title: in Portuguese followed by English, should be centered, bold, Times New Roman font and size 12;
     • LAST NAME, author name: right alignment with biographical footnote. Authorship information should follow the template below and sent in a document attached to the text;

Title and institution, city and state (acronyms), ongoing title, program and institution, city and state (acronyms). Professional relationship (if any), name of institution. Scholarship Agency (if any). Email: email@email.com

EXAMPLE: Master in History from Unicamp, Campinas-SP, PhD student of the Postgraduate Program at Unesp / Assis, Assis, SP. Teacher of the Public Network of São Paulo State. Email: mariasilva@email.com

• If the article’s text comes from a dissertation or thesis, the author should specify this information in the footnote that presents the authorship information.
• Abstract: – to include three to six keywords, separated by semicolons – should count together a maximum of 300 words, with single spacing.
• Text’s body:

• Times New Roman font, size 12;
• Line spacing 1.5;
• “After” paragraph spacing 0pt;
• First paragraph line with 1.25 cm indent;
• In bibliographic references the spacing is simple and “after” between paragraphs 0pt.
• Subtitles and Subdivisions: normal, without enumeration, with a space separating the text.
• The books’ titles cited in the body of the text must be in italics, without quotation marks;
• Chapter titles of reviewed books must be in quotation marks, without italics;
• Quotations, if in the text, enclosed in quotation marks, without italics;
• Quotations longer than 3 lines must be without quotation marks;
• Author interferences in citations must be in square brackets;
• Text suppression with three dots in brackets;
• Foreign words and expressions: in italics and without quotation marks;
• Name of institutions in italics without quotation marks;
• Epigraph: right-aligned, indented 7.5 cm in italics, system citation (AUTHOR, date, page)
• Excerpt from citation in another language: insert the translated text with reference (AUTHOR, YEAR, page, our translation) and present the original text in footnote, example: [In original] “Une Importante Reforme de La Police au Bresil” (AUTHOR, YEAR, page).
  • Quotations
    • Short direct quotes (up to 3 lines) must be enclosed in quotation marks. Long direct quotes (longer than 3 lines) should be indented 4.0 cm, Times New Roman font, size 10, single spaced, without quotation marks, separated by double spaces from the preceding and following paragraphs. For direct quotes, we use the author-data-page system – Example: (SILVA, 2004, p. 12). If the work has two or three authors, the last names should be separated by semicolons – Example: (SILVA; SOUZA, 2002). If there is a work with several authors, put the first author's last name and “et al” – Example: (SILVA et al., 2002). If you only want to refer to the work of the author mentioned in the text, you can only quote the date – Example: Walter Benjamin (1985). If there are several citations of a single author and page in the same paragraph, you can choose to refer to the end of it.
    • In case of emphasis, you must inform if it is from the cited author or from the article’s author. Example: (SILVA, 2004, p. 12, author’s emphasis); (SOUZA, 2002, p. 53, our emphasis).

• Footnotes
  • The footnotes, in Arabic numerals, should be explanatory only, reduced to information essential for understanding the subject. Footnotes should be in Times New Roman font, size 10.
• Images
  • Images (photos, maps, paintings), graphs and tables can be presented in the body of the text when necessary. They should be accompanied by a title, centered and listed with Arabic numerals, and a source, centered, below the image. Additional content may not exceed page margins.
• Bibliographic references
  • The works in the references must be in alphabetical order. If there are several works by the same author, the chronological order follows. Whenever possible indicate the access data.
  • Formatting should follow the ABNT standard (see some models below), Times New Roman font, size 12, left text alignment and single line spacing and no paragraph spacing.
  • References should include only the works cited in the article and follow the examples below:

* Please note that the 2018 ABNT does not require the inclusion of dashes in place of the repeated author name in the reference list. Consequently, Faces da História’s authors must follow the example shown with the works of Sérgio Buarque de Holanda.

2. REVIEWS:
   • Reviews should be 3-6 pages long and cover national or foreign books. For national titles, the works published in the last 24 months prior to the submission of the review are considered. For foreign titles, works published in the last 48 months prior to the submission of the review are considered.
   • No abstract and keywords are required for reviews. Except for this criterion, reviews should follow the formatting and structure rules defined for articles.
3. MODEL:

Below is a model of how Faces da História authors should proceed with regard to title, author name, abstract form, citation of text and images, and bibliographic references.

Abstract: A revista Faces da História (ISSN: 2358-3878) é uma publicação periódica online conduzida pelos discentes do Programa de Pós-Graduação em História da Universidade Estadual Paulista – Faculdade de Ciências e Letras de Assis. A proposta visa divulgar a produção científica na área de História e nas suas diferentes interfaces, assim como estimular e desenvolver o intercâmbio entre pesquisadores, docentes e discentes de programas de pós-graduação stricto sensu. Faces da História aceitará artigos científicos inéditos – separados em duas secções: dossiês e artigos livres. Além de resenhas, traduções e entrevistas cujo interesse se refere à difusão de ideias e ao desenvolvimento do conhecimento histórico.

Introduction

Em concordância com Chartier (1999, p. 29), “A revolução do texto eletrônico será ela também uma revolução da leitura”.

Pode-se dizer que Chartier está em uma Nova História Cultural, preocupada mais com a singularidade dos objetos com suas descontinuidades e permanências:

Concordando com Marc Bloch que afirmava que “tudo o que o homem diz ou escreve, tudo o que fabrica, tudo o que toca pode e deve informar-nos sobre ele”. Roger Chartier ampliou o conceito de fonte histórica, ultrapassando os limites do texto escrito para abordar também as práticas culturais a qual estes estabeleciam ou se inseriam, as formas de produção, reprodução e recepção dos textos. Assim, Chartier valoriza não somente a materialidade, mas, também a oralidade, a forma de ler ou dizer, que segundo ele, em alguns momentos da história e, em determinadas sociedades, foi utilizada para perpetuação do poder. (LIMA, 2011, p.188).
